Emmet Otter AND the NPX, part 1

we had a christmas-packed weekend last weekend. to start out, grandma nancy gave us tickets to the goodspeed opera house to see my all-time favorite christmas story, jim henson's emmet otter's jug band christmas.

for those of you who don't know, this show first aired on HBO in 1977, and i'm pretty sure i've never missed a christmas without watching it at least twice. one might think that it was a sign that our move to connecticut was the right one because emmet's live version is ONLY at the goodspeed. nowhere else in the world can you see a live production of the world's best christmas story!! thank you, grandma nancy, for a christmas gift that will NEVER be topped.

rumor has it that the goodspeed was hand picked by jim henson's company b/c east haddam is like a real waterville. no pictures inside the theater, so here are a few on the outside:

one more thing to admit. when emmet and his mom sing 'when the river meets the sea,' it always gets me a little choked up. now put that song on a live stage, and there could have been actual tears. maybe. ok, there were tears. i challenge you to see this in person and stand there unmoved!

I have to say that I choked up thinking of my son holding his daughter and watching Emmet Otter with her. Doesn't seem that long ago that my son sat in my lap...
